Dr. Susan Iannaccone serves as the Principal Investigator of the NeuroNEXT site at UT Southwestern Medical Center, in Dallas. Dr. Iannaccone is Professor of Pediatrics and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Neurology. Dr. Iannaccone completed her residency training under Drs. Robert Joynt and Berch Griggs, and has since focused her career on the neuromuscular disorders of childhood. For the past 2 decades she has worked on management protocols and outcome measures for the most common disorders: Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Dr. Iannaccone was awarded a NIH-funded grant (RO1 NS39327) and served as the principal investigator for American Spinal Muscular Atrophy Randomized Trials (AmSMART) from 2000 through 2008. AmSMART established for the first time reliability and validity for outcome measures in the young SMA population. Dr. Iannaccone serves as Principal Investigator in clinical drug trials for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
