Laurie Gutmann

CCC Director of Site Management and Intervention

Dr. Gutmann will be involved in the NeuroNEXT site management/ intervention group and with education along with Dr. Jeremy Shefner. She received a BA from Oberlin College, her MD from West Virginia University School of Medicine, and did her Neurology Residency and Neuromuscular/EMG Fellowship at University of Virginia. She was a faculty member of the West Virginia University School of Medicine for 20 years and is currently Professor of Neurology at the University of Iowa. She has board certification in neurology, clinical neurophysiology, vascular neurology, and neuromuscular medicine. Dr. Gutmann has had long-standing clinical trials experience beginning at WVU and this was enhanced by her four years of experience in the extramural clinical trials program at NINDS/NIH. She served there as program officer for several U01 trials, was a consultant for Coriell Repository, and was actively involved in the Office of Clinical Research activities. She was the Medical Director of the WVU Stroke Center, clinical neurophysiology fellowship and residency program director, and director of the MDA/ALS clinic. She is currently a member of the University of Iowa neuromuscular research division and director of the Myotonic Dystrophy Clinic. She is coPI of the NINDS Clinical Trials Methodology Course and an instructor in the University of Iowa Institute of Clinical and Translational Studies. She is vice chair of the AAN Education committee. She serves as a director for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
