I am a board-eligible neurologist currently completing a T-32 Neurocritical Care fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. Originally from Medellin, Colombia (known as the “City of Eternal Spring”), I completed my Neurology residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where I had the honor of serving as Chief Resident. My fellowship focuses on the critical management of patients with acute brain injuries and neurological emergencies, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, status epilepticus, and more. After earning my medical degree, I gained extensive research experience, including a role as a clinical research assistant in the Department of Immunology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. I also completed two postdoctoral fellowships at NYU Langone Health and Emory University, working in highly collaborative teams of scientists and clinicians on several NIH-funded studies. As the primary investigator in my research, I focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration following repetitive brain trauma. My work aims to explore molecular biology to identify biomarkers and develop therapeutic targets in traumatic brain injury. Most recently, I am leading a project on mild traumatic brain injury to identify transcriptomic signatures that predict post-concussive syndrome six months after trauma.
