Dr. Torner is a Professor of Epidemiology, Surgery and Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa and recently stepped down as the chair of that department. He has over 30 years of experience conducting clinical research and clinical trials, and has been a member of the NN statistical design team throughout the life of the Network. He has presented and published statistical methodology in neurological assessment and the conduct of clinical trials for acute and chronic conditions. His area of research and teaching is in statistical epidemiology, neuroepidemiology, prognostic studies, and acute and preventive clinical trials. He has expertise in neurological measurement and evaluation in longitudinal designs. His methodological expertise is in the design of early phase clinical trials of neuroprotectants and rTPA and the design of phase III clinical trials in head injury and stroke.
